Right Wing Nut Job
It's all black
Published on September 7, 2008 By BONEHEADdb In Personal Computing

I use the Prt Scr key to take a screenshot, always have. I never had a problem till now, my shots come out all black with white hilites. The only thing that has changed is this: I had a 22 inch monitor and a 19. Now I have a 24 and a 22. Could it be the monitors/video card? I tried one of those screenshot programs, out of 5 tries it crashed 4 times and saved one image. The image I got had all the window frames gone, that ain't worth a hoot if your trying to show a WindowBlind.

Any Ideas

I've been getting that too. Either it's black or it says "couldn't recieve data from clipboard".  The only way it works is to reboot.

Ok here we go and maybe we can get somewhere with this problem.

Go to run and type DXDIAG and then when it ask if you want to check for WHQL drivers say yes. Go to the display tab and run the two test there for direct draw and 3D. Let me know if there is an error with whatever files and/or drivers...

Ok for one looks like you need to update the driver for that card first - go here and get this driver installed

I downloaded the driver and the config. program and installed it. I still get a black screenshot and I couldn't  get my primary monitor(24) to display right. I went back to the old driver. When I get time I'll change back to the old setup(22,19)and see if that fixes it, then go from there.

I think I have found out wtf is going on here.

That problem is that from the looks of it, Windows' own screenshot feature, aka hitting Print-Screen (which saves a screenshot in your clipboard for pasting into the graphics program of your choice, if you didn't already know), seems to have a resolution limit.
